Past: May 21 → July 9, 2016

With a bicultural background, German and Italian, Bernhard Rüdiger’s artist approach wavers between sculpture, installation, stage production and architecture. His lines of thought are overtaken by the notion of process, which translates into countless models from cardboard, wood, iron, or in the form of drawings. His installations and sculptures, where sound is of vital importance, invite the spectator to have an active involvement. « Central to my work is the fact that the viewer’s mental, physical, and psychological experiences are to be found in the same space with an object which has a physical presence that does not open up another space, but interacts with it ». Bernhard Rüdiger graduated from the Accademia di Belle Arti in Milan where he was taught by Luciano Fabro. In the early stages of his career, he worked at the Casa degli artisti in Milan, a cultural association dedicated to promoting art, founded in 1981 by Luciano Fabro, Jole de Sanna and Hidetoshi Nagasawa. From 1989 to 1993, he made a key contribution to collaborations among artists such as Liliana Moro, Adriano Trovato ou Mario Airò, also known for the realisation of experimental collective projects, along with others, they founded the Tiracorrendo review and the artist-run space Lo Spazio di via Lazzaro Palazzi. Today, he lives and works in Paris. He currently teaches at the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Lyon, where he leads the ACTH research unit since 2004.
