BKO Quintet
Concert

Past: Sunday, June 28, 2015 at 5 PM

The music of the BKO Quintet is born from an encounter with 5 established artists. Ibrahima Sarr, a strong percussionist, has travelled the world alongside Oumou Sangaré. Fassara Sacko stands out from the other griots in the traditional festivals. The grandson of Yoro Sidibé, Nfaly Diakité, also sings and plays his donso n’goni (6-string lute) during animist ceremonies. Abdoulaye Koné, a virtuoso of the djelingoni, has developed a unique style and collaborated with great artists such as Tiken Jah Kafoly, Salif Keita touring outside the borders of Mali before joining the quintet. Finally, Aymeric Krol, well-established on the international scene, grooves on his strange drums. For the past 10 years he has often visited Bamako, where he has worked with several artists. His encounter with Ibrahima Sarr gave birth to the BKO Quintet project. The originality and power of the BKO Quintet resides in this union of two social classes, little used to playing together.

Fassara Sacko: voice, dunun khassonke; Nfaly Diakité: voice, donso n’goni; Ibrahima Sarr: voice, djembe; Abdoulaye Koné: voice and djeli n’goni; Aymeric Krol: hybrid percussion and voice.
