Constellation
Exposition de la jeune scène contemporaine de Serbie

Past: September 17 → October 17, 2015

The exhibition Constellation at the Serbian Cultural Centre in Paris from 17 September 2015 to 17 October 2015 brings together the works of twelve young artists from the contemporary art scene in Serbia. Through their paintings, drawings, photographs and videos, the artists address a polymorphic panorama of issues, challenges and hopes of a society marked by past and present turbulences, and facing social and economic changes. Oscillating between hope and anxiety, idealistic aspirations and real possibilities, collective commitment and intimate retreat, they question the social conditions influencing their mode of production. Their works are both analytical and critical, and position themselves at the intersection of memory and future opportunities.

Evolving at the margins of the dominant artistic circuits, in an environment characterized by a lack of institutional support and without a structured and sustainable art market, these artists explore alternative ways to articulate their artistic practices: networking, clustering and self-management. Thus they constitute an autonomous artistic ecosystem designed to counterbalance the principles of free competition and competitiveness.

The Constellation exhibition is conceived as an open field, with no intention to propose a exhaustive framework or a predictable linear narrative. The exhibition is an invitation to dialogue, hoping to stimulate exchange, progressive and pluralistic relations, new constellations in a multi-polar world. If we arrived at this common present, after having lived through different historical experiences, what future can we now imagine together?
