In the late 1920s, Alexander Dorner, director of the Landesmuseum in Hanover, and El Lissitzky, an avant-garde Soviet artist, worked together to construct a special room for exhibiting modern art, known as the “Cabinet of the Abstracts” (Cabinet des Abstraits). Through the history of this “Cabinet of the Abstracts”, this lecture will follow the development of ideas about art, museums, exhibitions and the history of art in the socio-political context of the first half of the 20th century.
