The legend of the fairy Mélusine dates from the 13th Century. Condemned by her own mother to each Saturday become part lady part serpent, she makes her husband promise to never see her on this day. Her husband, convinced that she is seeing another, breaks his promise and discovers her as a monster. Mélusine flees forever.
