Galerie Lelong presents an exhibition of works by Kiki Smith, including recent editions with a focus on the suite “Mortal,” twelve woodcut etchings related to her mother’s death. This work, self published and printed in black on Japanese paper, depicts the final stages of the life of the artist’s mother, imbued with a beautiful and strange intensity of grief and sadness.

Other works to be exhibited include a new suite of eight linocuts, “Linger”.

Kiki Smith is a highly regarded American artist. She was born in 1954 in Nuremberg, Germany, and lives and works in New York. Recent significant exhibitions include Sojourn, Brooklyn Museum New York 2010; I Myself Have Seen It: Photography in the Work of Kiki Smith, Henry Art Gallery, Seattle, 2010; Kiki Smith: Her Memory, Fundacio Joan Miro, Barcelona 2009, and Kiki Smith: Her Home, Kunsthalle Nuremberg, Germany, 2008. A major retrospective, Kiki Smith: A Gathering, 1980–2005, traveled 2005-2007 to the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston; Whitney Museum of American Art, New York; and La Colección Jumex, Mexico City, 2007.
