Variations of scale in the Andes and Mesoamerica

_ Friday 04/09/15_

On the basis of data from the Andes and Mesoamerica, this study day explores the impact of a reduction in scale on the ritual efficiency of these objects. A number of studies of material culture are presented, comparing archaeological and anthropological knowledge in order to provide an interdisciplinary perspective on the concepts of life and the living amongst the Amerindian peoples.

Organized by Olivia Angé, Andrew Hamilton and Perig Pitrou in collaboration with the Pépinière Interdisciplinaire CNRS-PSL “Domestication et fabrication du vivant”.

Inca Gold

Saturday 05/09/15

On the basis of a corpus of contextualised items from the territory of the Tawantinsuyu Inca and now belonging to a number of different collections, the aim of this encounter is to lead to advances in knowledge regarding the production of gold and silverwork during the period of the Inca empire (1450-1532 A.D.)

Organized by Paz Núñez-Regueiro, head of the Americas collections at the musée du quai Branly, and Maria Filomena Guerra, director of research at CNRS, UMR 8096 ArchAm.
