Serena Carone, Gretchen Ryan, Hidde van Schie

Past: June 30 → July 31, 2010

We are very pleased to announce our upcoming exhibition with Serena Carone, Gretchen Ryan and Hidde van Schie, a project that brings together artists from different backgrounds (Paris, Los Angeles, Rotterdam), with outstanding individualities and eclectic careers, but whose respective universes echo one another by their singularity. This three-voice conversation will be an opportunity to present the works of artists discovered during unexpected encounters, and who have rarely — or never — exhibited in France.

Serena Carone (France — 1958) is a self-taught artist who creates works according to a discreet but hard — worked process based on the deflection of the quotidian. She exhibited at Galerie Rambert, then continued her art more secretly, confining her creations to a familiar setting and inventing a peculiar world evolving in its own rhythm. Her last works made between 2009 and 2010, will be showed at the gallery and presented to the public for the first time.

Gretchen Ryan (1975 USA) lives and works in Los Angeles. Her works explore themes of perfection, youth, and desire through the prism of children’s pageants, and their grown-up iterations. Ryan has exhibited at the Bristol City Museum (2010), at Fred Torres Collaborations and at the Jonathan Levine Gallery in New York (2009), at the National Museum of Fine Arts in Santiago.

Hidde van Schie (1978 — The Netherlands) is a visual artist / musician who works in a variety of different media. His work investigates how, in fashion, advertising, sports, porn, etc, different sets of esthetics rules express specific moral values. In order to understand his personal relationship with these values, van Schie uses the technique of collage as his artistic strategy, through an intuitive process of construction and deconstruction. He is graduated from the Willem de Kooning Academy in Rotterdam (2001), and awarded the “Bunning Brongers Award for Painting” (2002). His work has been shown in Australia, The Netherlands, Germany, France, Portugal, Mexico, Romania, Poland and Finland.
