Design Museum Gent

The museum’s collection has evolved from mostly 17th and 18th century decorative arts to modern and contemporary design from 1860 to now. Objects before 1860 are the historical basis on which the modern and contemporary design grafted.

The focus is on using objects from the private home, with axes as living room, dining room, kitchen, den, bedroom, as well as the garden. The museum would prefer a broad definition of design. It employs a number of parameters that a greater or lesser extent are present in a design product: modernity, innovation, ergonomics, durability and aesthetic relevance. Serica well as communicating to meet those requirements. Innovation can relate to form, function, materials and production techniques.
