Although still one of the world’s most famous artists, no monographic exhibition in France has ever shown Velazquez’s genius to the public. The rarity of his paintings and their legitimate concentration in the Prado Museum make it particularly difficult to organise a retrospective. However that was the challenge taken up by the Louvre and the Grand Palais.
