A facility for creation, experimentation and research in contemporary art, the Institut d’art contemporain (IAC) holds exhibitions and meetings in situ, combined with the assembling of a collection of international exposure. It extends research through ex situ exhibitions, by showing its collection throughout the Rhône-Alpes region, in France and beyond.

The IAC in four dates :

1978: Founding of Le Nouveau Musée art centre by Jean Louis Maubant

1982: Creation of the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain (FRAC) Rhône-Alpes

1998: Founding of the Institut d’art contemporain, the fruit of the merging of Nouveau Musée and the Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain Rhône-Alpes (Rhône-Alpes Regional Contemporary Art Collection)

2006: Nathalie Ergino succeeded Jean Louis Maubant as the IAC’s director.
