Lawrence Lek
Born in 1982 in Frankfurt, Lawrence Lek lives and works in London. An artist and filmmaker, he is known for his immersive installations and science fiction narratives that explore themes of artificial intelligence, memory, and technological utopias. Lek popularized the concept of “Sinofuturism,” blending architecture, music, and storytelling to create virtual worlds where history and futurism intersect.
Winner of the Frieze Artist Award in 2024, he has presented major works such as Geomancer (2017), AIDOL (2019), and NOX (2023). His recent exhibitions include Life Before Automation (Goldsmiths CCA, London, 2025) and Nepenthe (Sydney Biennale, 2024). Lek is represented by Sadie Coles HQ (London), where he continues to push the boundaries between the real and the virtual, questioning our relationship with technology and identity.
