Anna de Castro Barbosa
Born in 1995 in Montpellier, Anna de Castro Barbosa is a visual artist and sculptor. She lives and works in Paris, with a studio at POUSH. A graduate of the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts de Paris, the Beaux-Arts de Nantes, Sorbonne Nouvelle University, and Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, she was mentored by Tatiana Trouvé and Dominique Figarella.
Her sculptures use materials that speak directly to the body—the coldness of metal, the softness of a porous surface, the sharpness of a cutting line—to tell stories, provoke, and explore the relationships between desire, discomfort, attraction, and repulsion. Her installations challenge both body and gaze, seeking encounter and contact, and eliciting reactions ranging from allergy to pleasure.
Her work has been shown in France (Spiaggia Libera, Strouck, Pal Project) and internationally (Third Born in Mexico, Mega in Milan). In 2024, she received the Diptyque Grant, the Bredin-Prat Grant, and the Prix Dauphine for Contemporary Art. Her first solo exhibition took place in September 2025 in Mexico, following a residency at Third Born Gallery.
