Mohamed Lekleti
Mohamed Lekleti (born in Taza, Morocco; lives and works in Montpellier, France) develops a strongly narrative practice that brings together drawing, collage, and textile in dense, layered compositions. Drawing lies at the core of his work and serves as a means to explore human complexity as well as questions of displacement and identity. Informed by personal and collective memory, mythology, and oral traditions such as One Thousand and One Nights, his symbolic universe reconfigures the world as a fragmented yet resilient fabric.
A recipient of the contemporary drawing prize Chic Dessin, held in Paris alongside Drawing Now (2011), Lekleti is recognized as a key figure in contemporary drawing in both France and Morocco. His work has been exhibited in institutions including MAC Lyon, the Arab World Institute, the Frissiras Museum, and MACAAL, and has been presented at major international art fairs such as Art Dubai, 1-54, Drawing Now, and Art Paris.
His works are held in numerous public and private collections, among them the Detroit Institute of Arts (USA), the Arab World Institute (Paris), MAC Lyon, the CNAP, Frac Occitanie, FRAC Picardie, the Fondation Gandur pour l’Art (Geneva), the Mohammed VI Museum (Rabat), the Fondation Société Générale, the Blachère Foundation, the Kamel Lazaar Foundation (Tunisia / Switzerland), and MACAAL (Marrakech).
His work has also been shown at the Museu Nacional de Arte Contemporânea — MNAC (Lisbon), the Musée Paul Valéry (Sète), and the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art (Rabat).
In 2026, he will participate in Saison Méditerranée 2026, a project led by Frac Occitanie, with two monographic exhibitions scheduled at the Museum of Tangier (summer 2026) and at Frac Occitanie (late September 2026).
