À l’intérieur — Par Marc Donnadieu
Exhibition
À l’intérieur
Par Marc Donnadieu
Starts tomorrow: October 17 → November 21, 2026
As part of the bicentenary of photography, the gallery invited Marc Donnadieu to curate an exhibition in its main gallery, centered on the theme of confinement.
The exhibition À l’intérieur, on view from October 17 to November 21, 2026, brings together several bodies of documentary, medical, police and judicial photographs from the late 19th and early 20th centuries relating to identification, arrest and incarceration in prison, penal colonies, internment centers or hospitals, alongside drawings made by Art Brut artists while experiencing confinement or seclusion.
The neutrality of photography, as well as the projects of control, surveillance and isolation that it embodies, all the more strongly underscores the urgency of such artistic practices, sometimes clandestine, sometimes undertaken within institutional frameworks. This is particularly evident when these practices take as their subject either the architecture of these places themselves, or unsuspected forms of representing oneself or others.
Power(s) and counter-power(s) are thus placed in dialogue and/or juxtaposition at the heart of this project, dedicated to Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Michel Foucault, Chris Marker and Éric Rondepierre.
