Cabinet Da-End 07
Past: March 11 → May 6, 2017
The Galerie Da-End introduces this spring its seventh contemporary cabinet of curiosities, a major rendez-vous of the gallery’s annual program and result of a dialogue between the work of thirty international artists and tribal objects.
Presented in a scenography reminiscent of the historical « rooms of wonders », the artworks featured in the exhibition will follow this year the underlying theme of Ichi-go ichi-e (一期一会), a Japanese maxim that stems from zen buddhism. Literally translated by « One chance, one meeting », this saying encourages each one to fully appreciate the instant, for no common experience will ever occur the same way.
The concept of transience that is associated to it, omnipresent in the buddhist and epicurian philosophies, positively invites each and every one to give a greater value to the present, in an exercise of awareness of the world surrounding us.
The invitation was therefore launched to the artists, to construe this subject in their own way and make visible the sometimes decisive moment of the encounter, as a starting point for all things possible. An aesthetic of the sentitive and the poetic in which time seems frozen in the middle of an action that could turn for the better or the worse.
Harmony of shapes, hybridization of reigns, the approachs is also plastic in that some of the artists in the exhibition confront mediums and materials in an innovating way. Whether litteral, abstract or symbolic, their multiple interpretations tend to express the existential questionnings of man, that usually escape the eye.
With the kind participation of : Astier de Villatte & Setsuko Klossowska de Rola, Alexandre Bernand, Collections Nicolas Drouet, Galerie Schoffel-De Fabry.
