Christine Safa — J’ai deux maisons
Exhibition
Christine Safa
J’ai deux maisons
In 14 days: November 13 → December 20, 2025
J’ai deux maisons is the title Christine Safa has chosen for her new exhibition. Its resonance recalls the famous song “J’ai deux amours” performed by Joséphine Baker. Between Lebanon, where her family lives, and her studio in Palaiseau, Safa paints horizons, hills, and houses whose rooftops evoke the outline of a familiar mountain. She captures the lingering glow of a summer evening, the shifting rectangle of the sea against the still rectangle of the sky, the silhouette of her beloved, joy intertwined with melancholy. Although Safa is especially fond of small formats, shimmering with warm colors, for this first exhibition at rue de Téhéran she has also created several large canvases. A suite of watercolors on paper completes the presentation.
Her painting resonates with truth because it remains faithful to the emotion that sustains it.
Christine Safa graduated from the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris. Her work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at FRAC Auvergne in Clermont-Ferrand (2023) and ICA Milan (2022). Her recent group shows include: Musée des Beaux-Arts de Caen (2025); Centre Pompidou-Metz (2025); MASC, Les Sables d’Olonne (2024); MOCO, Montpellier (2023); Fondation Carmignac, Porquerolles (2023); Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dole (2023); Musée Estrine, Saint-Rémy-de-Provence (2023); Fondation Pernod Ricard, Paris (2022); MUCEM, Marseille (2022); Fondation Boghossian, Brussels (2021).
