Eric Antoine
A contre corps

Past: November 7 → December 1, 2018

Eric Antoine encountered the collodion and the ambrotype by going back to the heroic times of photography.
Eric Antoine works on these traces by appropriating the time, that of the pose, of the laboratory, those of the pondering and of the meditation. With a taste for simplicity, he captures pieces of nature.

The body is in the center of his subjects. Fragmented body, frozen, sacred, displaced, treated as a symbol. Each image tells a story where from escapes a feeling of strangeness.

He handles, as a painter, the effect of materials, all the more obvious as he plays their contrasts. We think pictorially. He does not hide his interest of Steichen’s work, as he confesses his attraction for the radical expression of the new objectivity and his particular passion for Renger- Patzsch : “ It is absurd to love both but I am in two minds and I question myself everytime I have to accept or not a defect on an image “.

Eric Antoine chose a former tool to stand out as an artist in the contemporary art scene.

The Galerie Berthet-Aittouarès shows his work for the first time with 25 photographies.
