Ernest Pignon-Ernest — De traces en empreintes
Exhibition
Ernest Pignon-Ernest
De traces en empreintes
Past: January 12 → March 4, 2023
For over twenty years, Ernest Pignon-Ernest has maintained a rigorous practice of digital printmaking for Lelong Editions, combining on a single sheet preparatory drawings and photographs of his interventions in public space. The possibilities offered by this process enable the artist to present at the same time his most recent interventions: Pasolini in Rome, Ostia, Naples and Matera in 2015, followed by Haiti in 2019, together with other, older projects such as the Extases installation (begun in the 1990s and implemented for the first time at the St Charles chapel, Avignon, in 2008) as well as creations dating from the 1970s, like the Rimbaud route, an image pasted on walls from Charleville-Mézières to Paris.
For this new exhibition in the gallery’s bookshop, drawings will be juxtaposed with a selection of these recent prints and others never previously exhibited, in order to offer an account of both the preparatory research and the work’s fate in situ.
Ernest Pignon-Ernest, born in Nice in 1942, has been making interventions in public space for over fifty years. A major monographic work, published by Éditions Gallimard, retraces all of his interventions. An exhibition presenting more than 300 works, held at the Fonds Hélène et Edouard Leclerc from June 2022 to 15 January 2023, met with great success.
