Franz Ackermann
Past: April 9 → May 28, 2016
Galerie Daniel Templon is holding its first Paris exhibition of paintings by German artist Franz Ackermann, whose complex and exuberant work is rooted in the concepts of geography and migration.
An artist very much in tune with his era, Ackermann seeks to chronicle new urban realities and the ways in which they are perceived, at a time when both realities and perceptions are driven by ceaseless flows of tourists and information. His monumental paintings take the form of large exploded views that combine architectural elements with numerous Modernist references and abstract shapes in a burst of colours and materials.
As part of Galerie Daniel Templon’s 50th birthday celebrations, Franz Ackermann is transforming the now-historic gallery space on Rue Beaubourg, with its pillars and glass roof, in an exploration of ideas about ten major capital cities. The project centres on Franz Ackermann’s particular interest in Paris and a number of its axes, such as that lying between the Gare du Nord and Gare de l’Est.
