Les jours
Past: May 24 → July 27, 2013
Les jours is the Gérard Traquandi’s fourth personal exhibition. It presents an exclusive ensemble of twenty seven oil paintings on wood panels made between 2012 and 2013.
“Days come and go, each one the same as the next, or not, it depends. The days are also those beams of light which apertures pierced in a wall let into the room. A glimpse of what is happening outside when one is shut away. Each painting of this suite has a life of its own, yet each one is transformed by its neighbours. The ambivalence implied by this proposition reveals the discomfort in which I live the trade of painting today : my growing faith in the legitimacy of this simple act to say something of the world conflicts with my strenghtening doubt as to the place it leaves to paintings.”
Gérard Traquandi, May 2013
Born in 1952, Gérard Traquandi lives and works in Marseille and Paris. He develops since the 90’s a powerful and singular work, which never ceases to question the very practices of painting, photography and sculpture. Recently, he has exhibited at the Maison Européenne de la Photographie, Paris, the Pavillon des Arts Populaires, Montpellier and the Musée Cantini, Marseille. His works are on show in the collections of nine FRAC, the Museum of Modern Art, Paris and in several other french and european public collections.
Gérard Traquandi exhibits until November 3rd at the Abbaye de Montmajour, within the framework of Mon île de Montmajour a project by Christian Lacroix articulated around the works of the Cirva. Two sugar aquatints commissioned by the Chalcography of the Louvre are currently available at the Museum.
