Henry Taylor
Where thoughts provoke

Ends in 5 months: April 8 → September 6, 2026

The Musée national Picasso-Paris will present an exhibition dedicated to Henry Taylor, one of the leading figures in contemporary American painting. Conceived in close collaboration with the artist, the exhibition will survey his entire body of work while continuing the museum’s exploration of the reception of Pablo Picasso in the United States. It follows previous exhibitions devoted to Faith Ringgold (2023), Jackson Pollock (2024), and Philip Guston (2025), and precedes a major retrospective on the Harlem Renaissance scheduled for spring 2027.

Spread across two floors and thirteen galleries, the exhibition will bring together around one hundred works—paintings, sculptures, and installations—highlighting Henry Taylor’s engagement with the richness and complexity of human experience. Whether portraying friends, family members, anonymous individuals, or public figures, his compositions offer a vivid and deeply humane vision of our time. Taylor’s practice, both expressive and formally inventive, weaves visual narratives that connect individual trajectories with collective realities. Personal experiences, shared memory, and ongoing dialogues with art history intersect throughout his work. His reinterpretations of influential artworks, particularly those by David Hammons, Philip Guston, and Pablo Picasso, demonstrate how he draws on the past to reimagine the present.

Henry Taylor has been the subject of numerous exhibitions in the United States and internationally, including a major retrospective at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles in 2022, followed by the Whitney Museum of American Art in 2023. His works are held in leading public collections such as the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and the Museum of Modern Art. The presentation at the Musée national Picasso-Paris will mark the artist’s first retrospective in France.
