La mia ceramica
Exhibition
La mia ceramica
Past: June 4 → July 16, 2016
In opening a dialogue between the works of artists spanning a variety of generations, the group show la mia ceramica explores how ceramics are imagined, and then manipulated by artists whose background is not traditionally in this medium but rather in sculpture, painting or installation.
It was first in the 1930s that Fontana started to delve into the potential and importance of ceramics in his manifesto la mia ceramica. Picasso would pursue this exploration again some years later during his time at Vallauris. Inspired by modern interpretations of an ancient tradition, la mia ceramica traces the gestures and changes throughout history that have lead to the innovative contemporary take on the medium. A clear message emerges: the art of ceramics is timeless, the medium opening itself to an endless reinterpretation and revisiting. It has the potential to be transformed into all imaginable forms, gliding from the representation to the abstraction, but also between meticulous mastery and physical impulsion, opening an infinite field of remarkable possibilities.
