Les référents
Past: November 29, 2012 → January 26, 2013
Artist Aurélien Mole and the Art critic Etienne Bernard have been invited to propose a project for galerie Edouard-Manet Art Center in Gennevilliers. They have chosen to respond with a curatorial proposal which adds to the traditional methods of selecting a group exhibit a more collective logic, operating by ricochet.
Galerie Edouard-Manet Art Center’s specificity is to be located within the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Gennevilliers that hosts a preparatory class for Art Colleges.
Thus, the gallery space promotes art education though examples, providing students with a range of references that settle, combine or oppose each other at the option of programming.
The two curators chose to play with references that should be quoted by a student to get into a French Art College in 2003, 2013 and 2023. How to determine what structure the art today, a decade ago and which pratices will be seen as commonplaces tomorrow ? The scenegraphy will take in consideration the structure of the proposal. Three dates, three exhibition halls. The exhibition will start with its present (2013) before exploring its past and its future. Various artists whose practice structure art today are invited to submit a piece along with a reference that has been significant for them ten years back in 2003. Finally, the room devoted to references 2023 will be sort of a bet on the future, a projection that is aware of its limitations, a try.
