Exhibition
Mounir Ayache
Léon l’Africain : 2527
In 3 days: October 24 → November 14, 2026
Léon l’Africain: 2527 is the first exhibition in Counter-Narratives, an annual programme at Le Cube Garges dedicated to artists whose works reinvent the imaginaries of science fiction and challenge dominant narratives surrounding technology.
What if you could walk in the footsteps of a sixteenth century man… projected a thousand years into the future? — Mounir Ayache
For this inaugural edition, Franco Moroccan artist Mounir Ayache presents the culmination of several years of research: a video game installation that reimagines the figure of Leo Africanus in a distant future and through an Arabfuturist lens, inspired by Amin Maalouf’s novel of the same name.
You walk among 3D reconstructions of the historic monuments of Timbuktu and Samarra, transformed by a thousand years of future civilisation. You speak directly in Arabic with characters brought to life by artificial intelligence… Their voices and stories were written by authors from the Maghreb.
