This exhibition, blending sculpture and furniture, is a celebration of elementary structures, which yield a simple functionality through a purely linear aesthetic.

In their work, the three artists aim to create objects that might interact in a frank and straightforward way with the body and with space. Laminated plywood, which is commonly used for industrial purposes, is used here to construct furniture, objects and sculptures. Chairs, desks, mirrors, a quasi-sphere, all originate from basic compositions of intersecting planes and parallel lines.

This geometrical approach, involving items that can be handled, utilized or inhabited is inspired by the Bauhaus movement, by artists such as Gerrit Rietveld and Eileen Gray, and equally by minimalist artists like Donald Judd and Richard Artshwagger.

Gabrielle Conilh de Beyssac, Jules Guissart et Nicolas Manier provide a unique perspective on the design of basic functional objects that suggests an invigorating spontaneity and liveliness in their realization.

The spectator is mentally involved in the process of construction, which is left visible, in order to forge a close relationship between form, function, material and the onlooker’s body.
