Prix Pictet

Past: November 16 → 24, 2012

The names of the twelve photographers, whose outstanding portfolios on the theme of Power have been shortlisted for the fourth Prix Pictet, the world’s leading prize in photography and sustainability, were announced on 4 July 2012 at a special screening during the opening week of the global photography festival, Les Rencontres d’Arles.

The twelve shortlisted artists have begun preparing their work for the finalists’ exhibition to be held at the Saatchi Gallery, London in October. The winner will be announced by Kofi Annan, Honorary President of the Prix Pictet, on 9 October 2012.
The exhibition then will run from 10 — 28 October 2012 at the Saatchi Gallery in London and from 16 November — 8 December at Vanessa Quang Gallery in Paris.

Each year the award is centred on a distinct theme. The fourth theme of the Prix Pictet is Power, a theme with enormous breadth, embracing contradiction and paradox in equal measure that has uncovered images and issues that are both aweinspiring and disturbing.

At the same ceremony the photographer selected from those nominated for the prize to complete the Prix Pictet Commission will be announced. The Commission is an invitation from the Partners of Pictet & Cie, for one of the nominated photographers to undertake a field trip to a region where the Bank is supporting a sustainability project.

The Power Shortlist is drawn from ten countries on four continents: Algeria, Azerbaijan, Belgium, France, Netherlands, South Africa, Spain, United Kingdom, United States and Vietnam.
