Inspired by the reading of texts by French essayist Roger Caillois dedicated to the mineral reign, the recent works of Marion Catusse show mimetically the nature’s strata that usually remain invisible to the naked eye. Printed on 6 grams thick Japanese paper, her photographs of rocks taken with the microscope evoke the idea of light and palpability of matter. The sculptures of the « Pierre contre nature » series, combining transparent resin and precious metal leaves, imitate thanks to the technique of casting some fragments of rocks that Catusse collects. They interrogate the artist’s gesture that replicates protocols from the scientific research through his plastic experimentations.
