Architecture et développement culturel en Basse-Autriche
Past: August 28 → September 24, 2012
What architecture for Culture? Bau(t)en für die Künste Architecture and cultural development in Lower Austria Lower Austria, a state in the northeast of the country, has adopted a decentralized cultural policy. As a result, the region’s bucolic landscape is now home to many major cultural sites, designed by great architects such as Steven Holl, Klaus Kada, Hans Hollein and Gustav Peichl.
La Galerie d’Architecture invites you to discover a selection of these contemporary structures through an exhibition organized in conjunction with the Austrian Cultural Forum and the cultural section of the Lower Austrian government. Crossed by the Danube and with the young and dynamic city of Sankt Pölten as its capital, the state has seen its cultural sector grow at a spectacular rate over the last 20 years. Numerous events are held every year, including music festivals, performing arts festivals, art exhibitions and artists’ workshops.
The exhibition at La Galerie d’Architecture also presents some older cultural sites, set in magnificent countryside and an important part of the state’s heritage.
Lower Austria’s cultural sites, whether new constructions, or refurbishments or extensions of existing buildings, have been captured by the discerning lens of photographer Bruno Klomfar.
