Spector Books: Through the Labyrinth
Past: April 5 → September 7, 2014
The exhibition in Cneai returns the book Four Times Through the Labyrinth to the exhibition space and herewith discusses the question how a book can be exhibited. This way the exhibition is in a certain way the return of the project to it’s place of origin. In 1998, Olaf Nicolai used the green plastic brooms used by Paris street cleaners to build a labyrinth for the exhibition “Art Grandeur Nature”, which was held in the Parc de La Courneuve in Paris Saint-Denis. The layout of the labyrinth was a variation on a design in Daniel Loris’s baroque pattern book. After three months in the Parc de La Courneuve, the work found a new home in the public gardens of the Leipzig Gallery of Contemporary Art. It was also in this gallery that “Four Times through the Labyrinth” was first presented in the autumn of 2010 by four speakers: Alexander Hempel, Johannes Kirsten, Anne König, and Francis Hunger.
