Strength of Illusion : Line and Light — Laddie John Dill & Brian Wills
Exhibition
Strength of Illusion : Line and Light
Laddie John Dill & Brian Wills
Past: April 12 → June 7, 2014
For his second solo exhibition at the gallery, Laddie John Dill continues his research on light using it as a medium of predilection since the early 70s. He draws and designs spaces with colorful glass tubes that he puts together to form colored lines with various gases, mercury and argon. These constructions can both evoke a sunset over the Pacific or refer more to abstract minimalist research.
After studying law at Harvard, Brian Wills made the choice to become an artist, his deepest desire. He is now based in LA for 16 years and produces works that reveal a subtle blend of simplicity and complexity as the perception of their colors change according to the angle of incidence of light. Its close to minimalist works, using very modern materials, nylon thread, iridescent paint or lacquer responsive to contemporary concerns.
