Thibault de Gialluly — Abracadabra
Exhibition
Thibault de Gialluly
Abracadabra
Past: March 3 → April 20, 2012
Thibault de Gialluly is like a social researcher who would have the energy of a perk teenager. He tries to represent people who act and depicts a heterogeneous society pervaded by rebellion, onto which he grafts his inventions and experiments.
What is Hitler without his toothbrush moustache? What would Cinderella do if she had mislead herself into a riot? What kind of manifest would the Ditherers write? How would it be possible to have access to the daily news of a ravaged world ? His works are at the same time eloquent and silent. They evoke something to everyone without compelling themselves to follow a single code.
His drawings can be either good or bad. His hyperactive workshop resembles a kingdom in which he would be the king, the governor, the emperor, a partisan, an anarchist, or even stateless at the same time.
Thibault de Gialluly’s world is worth 300 000 wasted, copied, taken, grafted, repainted or drawn pictures: either happy, or unhappy citizens; people without a face and others you think you recognize, but finally don’t; worldwide catastrophies and trailed politics; rebelling youngsters, coke tins and pavements, unexplored islands and hybrid territories… Like an Official Show of official shows, but which you can’t find on newsstands.
