The Palace of Versailles presents the masterpieces of one of the last treasures of the Occident in the exhibition Treasure of the Holy Sepulchre — Gifts from European royal courts to Jerusalem.
The exhibition presents 250 unknown masterpieces from one of the last treasures of the Occident, the treasure of the Holy Sepulchre. Sent to the basilica of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem by the principal European rulers, some of these extraordinay works of art are revealed for the first time to the public in the Hall of Crusades of the Palace of Versailles whose paintings have recently been restored.
The visitor discover these sumptuous gifts which are unique in the world. Displayed according to their origin, they show how the different European rulers rivalled each other in generosity to enhance the splendour of the Treasure of the Holy Sepulchre.
