Entropie is the first solo show of the artist Vhils (a.k.a. Alexandro Farto) in France. This exhibition is the occasion to discover the latest works of one of the most promising artists of his generation.
Already worldwide famous from Los Angeles to Shanghai, London or Lisbon, Vhils is a young Portuguese artist who “revolutionizes the technique of stencil” and proposes outstanding works as well by their dimensions as by the expression of his subjects.
Vhils tries out completely new techniques. By drilling walls, drawing with acid on metal or engraving wood, he creates huge portraits in chiaroscuro. The portraits he makes are those of the local people. This way, he questions the idea of icon, giving again a dominating place to the anonymous who makes the identity of a city.
The artist portraits also underline a strong contrast between what is new and old. While making visible the lower parts of the buildings, he explores the history of a place and its evolutions. He seeks to give a new face to the urban landscape which he makes the most of it like a field of popular inspirations.
