Vincent Beaurin — Couronne

Vincent Beaurin

Past: May 16 → 18, 2013

Couronne is an exhibition of work by French artist, Vincent Beaurin; commissioned by Cheval Blanc ahead of its Maldivian opening, Cheval Blanc Randheli, in autumn this year.

Consisting of 46 sculptural colour spots, Couronne opens on 16th May for three days at Galerie Laurent Godin. The installation is the final stage in the creation of Beaurin’s work and is the only opportunity for the public to see the piece in its entirety before the colour spots leave to be installed in their new home, the villas at Cheval Blanc Randheli.

Beaurin’s work explores the richness of a wide spectrum of atmospheric colour tones, creating a stimulating and inspiring piece of art. The surface of the three-dimensional spots, made from fibreglass and polyester resin are layered with epoxy resin and a blend of marble and quartz coloured sands. Radiant, contrasting colours are juxtaposed to create a burst of intense colour. Each spot is completely unique and stands alone whilst creating a spectacle of which the whole is greater than the sum of its parts.

In his work, Beaurin often refers to landscapes and to Goethe’s observations as set forth in his Theory of Colours :

“The blue of the sky reveals to us the basic law of colour.”

J.W. Goethe, Theory of Colours, 1980

As colour is a reflection of shadow to light, this piece has been conceived so as to reveal its complexity when in its final surroundings of the Indian Ocean.

Born in 1960, Vincent Beaurin lives and works in Paris. His works are displayed in the following collections MNAM — Centre Georges Pompidou, FNAC, Fondation Cartier pour l’Art Contemporain, MUDAM Luxembourg, Collection Claude Berri.
