Homo Bulla

Past: January 30 → February 22, 2014

On a proposal of Adeline Wessang, Galerie Derouillon presents the exhibition Homo Bulla by Aline Zalko.

In Homo Bulla, Aline Zalko develops her own idea of the ephemeral, a theme appeared in the sixteenth century and entered into the iconography of vanitas art. In her drawings, the child’s face vanishes gradually under the features of adolescence. Gaping mouths reflect the transition to adulthood: the milk teeth fall to become the trophies of a lost world.

Snow globes reflect the fragility and brevity of things. They appear as a metaphor for the childish soap bubble. The drawings are also playing on the notion of scale. The perfect bubble surface masks the violence of the microcosm it encloses.
