Alisa Berger
Alisa Berger is a media artist and filmmaker, born 1987 in Makhachkala (Republic of Dagestan, Russia) and raised in Lviv (Ukraine) and Essen (Germany), currently lives and works in Cologne (Germany.
Alisa studied film and fine arts at Academy of Media Art Cologne (KHM) and Universidad Nacional de Colombia Bogotá and finished with Master of Arts. During her studies she received Best Super8 Award with her experimental film "Island Story“ at Calgary Artifact Film Festival.
With “The Astronauts’ Bodies“, her diploma film at Academy of Media Art premiered in the feature film competition of german film festival Max Ophüls Prize, was nominated for germans debut award FIRST STEPS and awarded New Directors Best Film award at International Film Festival Uruguay and Best Screenplay at Kinofest Lünen. Her latest video art piece, Three Borders“ became part of traveling exhibition “The Border” by Goethe Institut, and was shown in Russia, Georgia, Ukraine and Eastern Asia.
Alisa is also part of BERGERNISSEN performance-duo together with artist and filmmaker Lena Ditte Nissen. Her artistic works have been presented in a wide variety of venues, festivals and museums worldwide, among them the History Museum Tbilisi, BACC — Bangkok Art & Culture Centre, MMOMA Moscow, Anthology Film Archives, CCA — Center for Contemporary Art, European Media Art Festival EMAF, Videonale Bonn, San Diego Underground Film Festival, Dovzhenko Film Centre, KAI10 Arthena Foundation, KINDL — Centre for Contemporary Art, NCCA — Ural National Centre of Contemporary Art, Armenian Art Fair, HMKV Hartware MedienKunstVerein Dortmund.
2017 she was resident of the Bonner Kunstverein studio-grant. 2018 she was granted the talent scholarship of Kuratorium Junger Deutscher Film and the DAAD exchange scholarship to Tokyo for the development of her new feature film “The Housewife”. 2019 she was granted the Seoul Art Space Geumcheon residency by Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture and supported by the Ministry of Culture NRW for her work at Nakanojo Biennale and Seoul Geumchoen. Some of her films are distributed by Canadian Filmmakers Distribution Center.
