A sa mort, le 27 décembre 1991, Hervé Guibert était salué comme le jeune écrivain libre et flamboyant que son livre « A l’ami qui ne m’a pas sauvé la vie » venait de rendre célèbre. On indiquait aussi qu’Hervé Guibert laissait une œuvre de photographe reconnue et publiée. Ecrivain, photographe, il était les deux.
