Looking for a balance able to extract gravity, Jean-Baptiste Caron questions natural or mechanical laws relating to the concepts of gravity, weightlessness, density or lightness. Using a vocabulary referring to the imperceptible shift from one state to another : transformation, evolution, involution, or in-between inframince, he proposes a universe where the slightest flaw, the smallest grain of sand tumble our certainties.

A plastic bottle transmuted in glass (Et Soudain le Réel Vacille, 2013) holds its line with a balance seemingly unstable. The spherical volume Mécanique du Vivant ( 2012) does not behave like expected. Instead of rolling in a straight line, it takes an unexpected path that ends in a spiral. The spiral, one of the most common forms in nature symbolizes also for the artist, the conquest of its own center of gravity. Where is the balance point, the center of inertia ? The resulting curve, close to a Fibonacci spiral, called also gold spiral, is virtually limitless.

The imaginary power of infinity is also invoked in Alea Jacta Est (2010), a succession of sandstone cobbles, each one is the subject of a reduction operation , creating a sequence which is potentially endless. With Mobiles de Poussières (2010), the very fine particles which usually remain in suspension or lay down according to air masses are fixed and almost immobilized to become an object of contemplation. This interest in dust and air is also reflected in his drawings : graphite dust is organized into constellations by the breath of the artist (Souffle, 2010).
