Juliana Borinski
Juliana Borinski is a Brazilian-German artist based in Paris. She is working with moving and still images in the field of experimental photography, videography and media installation experimenting the conjunction between iconography and iconoclasm.
Her work was recently exhibited in international contemporary art events such as : L’apparition des images, Fondation d’Entreprise Ricard, Paris (FR), Words, Words, Words, Gallery Beton 7, Athens 2012 (GR), l’Archéologie, un mythe contemporain, espace contemporain la Tolerie, Clermont-Ferrand 2012 (FR), le Monde clos à l’univers infini, Le Quartier, Centre d’art contemporain de Quimper 2012 (FR), Traveling Time, NIMk, Amsterdam 2012 (NL), Graphology, The Drawing Room London 2012 (UK), Transmediale, Haus der Kulturen der Welt 2012 (Ger), Graphology, Muhka, Antwerp2011 (BE), IFFR Rotterdam 2011(NL).
She has been nominated and awarded for different art prices, notably the Karl Schmitt-Rottluff grant for exceptional artistic talent 2012 (Ger), Time is Light Award 2011 (Ger), Update II & IV Zebrastraat Gent 2012 & 2008 (BE) in collaboration with ZKM (Ger), Aide à la création DRAC Île de France 2011 (FR) Tiger Award, Rotterdam 2011 (NL).
Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 1979, she studied at the Academy of Media Art Cologne (KHM) in Germany with Jürgen Klauke, Valie Export, Julia Scher and Siegfried Zielinski, where she graduated in 2007 with a MFA in media art. Between 2004 and 2005 she studied at the Villa Arson, art school in Nice (FR).
During 2011- 2012 she was guest lecturer at the Free Arts department of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts (KASK) Ghent (BE).
In 2013, she had her first solo show at the gallery, and a whole booth was dedicated to her work on the occasion of ARCO Madrid 2014.
