Patrick Bernatchez
Patrick Bernatchez lives and works in Montréal. His work is characterized by a “chronic of a predicted death” focused on the immutable passing of time: the predicted death of all living creatures, individuals and even societies.
He pays a particular attention to the manifestations of a social schizophrenia between abstraction and representation, which find expression into his pictorial, video or photographic compositions as well as his sculptural and sonorous installations.
Following the Chrysalides cycle carried out between 2006 and 2009, Patrick Bernatchez is currently working on a new cycle entitled Lost in Time, started in 2010 in Berlin. Not only does it already include the 180° video, but also the sonorous composition Goldberg experienced and the sculptural installation Blackwatch Project.
Patrick Bernatchez’s work will be shown at the UQAM in Montreal for a retrospective exhibition from 28th October to 3rd December 2011.
