Pavlo Makov
Born in 1958 in Leningrad into a family of doctors, Ukrainian artist Pavlo Makov is a member of the Royal Society of Painters and Graphic Artists of Great Britain, a corresponding member of the National Academy of Arts of Ukraine and winner of the National Taras Prize Shevchenko from Ukraine (2018) is a Ukrainian artist. A student of the Academy of Arts in St. Petersburg, the Faculty of Graphic Design in Kharkiv and graduated from the Crimean Art School in 1979, he worked in his youth as a teacher and printer. In the 1990s, the Tretyakov Gallery included him in its collection while he taught at the same time at the Royal College of Art in London. Focused on graphic design, printing and literature, Makov’s work unfolds in a multitude of mediums that include books, photographs, paintings and installations. Corresponding member of the Ukrainian Academy of Arts, he represents it in 2022 at the Venice Biennale with his work Fountain of Exhaustion, which reactivates a motif very present in his work.
