Robert Courtright
It is in 1950 in New York that Robert Courtright exhibited his first works at the famous gallery Eugene Thaw. In 1953 Courtright arrived in Roma where colors and walls of the antic city became important in his work.
He was a master of collage and sculpture. He lived in France, Italy and USA.
Focused on round or squared forms, his works are almost always based upon a strict grid, letting however an extraordinary variety of painting and papers used for his collages with, here and there, a mark of signature, a character, as an echo of a no clarified story, a sort of reference in the flood of time.
His squares of paper always seem floating on their support, lined up but however free, each one as an independent piece forming a presence of an undeniable obvious.

Works of Robert Courtright are present at Metropolitan Museum of Art (New York), Phillips Collection (Washington, D.C.), at Musée Thyssen Bornemiza (Lugano), or Contemporary Museum of Art in Nice (France) Robert Courtright was born on October 26, 1926 in Sumter, South Carolina (USA) and deceased in Opio, France in December 2012. Jean-Jacques Dutko Gallery has often exhibited his work and it is in March 2013 in Ile saint Louis gallery, a large monographic exhibition of Robert Courtright’s works has been organized. A catalog of his collages and masks has been edited for this occasion.
