“I never talked about anything else than myself. As it was from the inside, nobody ever glimpsed.”
Alain Robbe-Grillet in Le Miroir qui revient, 1984, Les Éditions de Minuit, Paris
———
In the field between the work of art and the viewer, the “front of the art work” in the words of Pierre Soulages sets up a really sensitive relationship based on emotions and shared feelings. The exhibition Autofictions relates the encounter between the viewer and the intimacy of the artist.
A meeting that involves the establishment of a fiction based on an autobiographic feature, an “autofiction” as the term of Serge Doubrovsky. The piece of art tells us, the story of it’s creator in each step of its creation, even if it seems distanced from his author’s life, by his specifics themes, his formal vocabulary or the development of his technics.
Through his work, the artist attracts the viewer in his own existence thanks to multiples stratagems and artifices. He creates an open space, ready to welcome a visitor in order to share a story in which everyone can recognize himself.
