As an artist and curator, Corentin Canesson has dedicated his time to painting, music and urating. His practice adheres to various protocols that he imposes on himself as playful obsessions. He sees painting as a spontaneous pleasurable act through which he can summon mixed references to the history of 20th- and 21st-century art. For the current exhibition, he has done a series of abstract acrylic and oil paintings in a given format (195 × 130 cm), pointing to the gestures of Eugène Leroy, Bram Van Velde and Philip Guston. Experiencing this uninhibited painting also involves a soundtrack, one created by his group, called The Night He Came Home. The album visitors hear was recorded for the show and each of the record sleeves is hand-painted by the artist himself; it plays in a loop in Crédac’s main gallery, which has been reimagined as a soundstage.

Corentin Canesson was born in 1988 in Brest and lives and works in Paris. He graduated from the European Academy of Art in Brittany — the Rennes campus in 2011. His work was recently featured at the Passerelle Contemporary Art Center in Brest, the Jean Brolly Gallery in Paris, CNEAI in Chatou, and the Palette Terre Gallery in Paris. Along with his art activities, he codirected the STANDARDS exhibition space in Rennes from 2008 to 2014, and has continued this experience at DOC, an art residency and exhibition space in Paris.

Petits et grands découvrent l’exposition ensemble. Les familles participent ensuite à un atelier de pratique artistique qui prolonge la visite de manière sensible et ludique, autour d’un goûter. Conçu pour les enfants de 6 à 12 ans, l’atelier est néanmoins ouvert à tous !

Corentin Canesson, Retrospective my eye — Lecture : Josselin Ménage + Concert : The Night He Came Home Event Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 7 PM

As part of Corentin Canesson exhibition’s, Retrospective My Eye, a celebration night will take place at la Manufacture des Œillets.

The evening will starts at 7 pm at Crédac with a reading performance of Josselin Ménage followed by a concert of the music band The Night He Came Home at the Théâtre des Quartiers d’Ivry — Centre Dramatique National du Val-de-Marne.
What is the painter doing day after day? Invited by Corentin Canesson, Josselin Ménage wrote the artist’s diary. At the heart of the paintings, he read this invented diary, which contains the secrets of the painter, the exhibition, and the entire life.

Josselin Ménage was born in Brittany in 1986. He is a writer and classic litterature teacher in Paris. Lecturer and performer, he regularly takes part in art exhibitions and writes for literature magazines (L’infini, IntranQu’îllité), art books (Standards, éditions Holo Holo, 2014). Currently, he is working on a third novel, highly springlike and adventurous.

Concert starts at 8 pm at Théâtre des Quartiers d’Ivry — Centre Dramatique National du Val-de-Marne:
Within the framework of his exhibition, Corentin Canesson has produced a LP vinyl with his band The Night He Came Home. Each covers are hand paint by the artist. Price: 20€.

The Night He Came Home, also written TNHCH, is a music band composed of Arthur Beuvier (production/synthesizer/voice), Corentin Canesson (guitars), Tim Defives aka Tim Karbon (drums/production / voice) and Damien Le Dévédec (lead vocal/bass/synthesizer). Their sound is characterized by a musical weaving of different influences from krautrock to ambient-techno, passing by musical tones contrasting with folk melodies and a music club tempo.
