Drawing Now
Edition 13

Past: March 28 → 31, 2019

In 2007, the first edition of the contemporary drawing art fair surprised the art world, because drawing was still limited to a small number of connoisseurs. From the start, the Fair occupied a prime position among collectors!

Twelve years later, our efforts toward the medium’s recognition, together with galleries, artists, collectors, and institutions, has given contemporary drawing a privileged place in private and public collections. Such recognition has impelled several generations of artists to draw or draw again.

The DRAWING NOW Art Fair is the leading contemporary art fair in Europe dedicated to drawing, and the first to have dedicated an entire fair to the contemporary medium. Christine Phal, the President and Founder, created the fair in 2007.

Every year in March, the international benchmark event hosts more than 70 international galleries that are selected by an independent committee of art professionals. Exhibitors present over 400 artists and nearly 2,000 artworks that show the diversity of drawing from the past 50 years up through today. Both collectors and art enthusiasts are invited to discover works by emerging and more established artists.

The Fair’s team, headed by the director Carine Tissot and accompanied by the artistic director Joana P.R.

Neves, prepare year-round a rich and varied program for springtime, so they can share their passion as widely as possible.

ACTION ! : PERFORMING DRAWING

Drawing is often considered as a performative art form that requires endurance and physical effort but also a live observational skill. It is therefore readily associated with dance, artistic conferences, activism, music, and more.

Experimental, this exchange in time and in a specific location includes marks indicating the trace of a gesture or thought as visual measures of sometimes ephemeral and quasi imponderable experiences.

During performances and recordings of drawing actions, the drawing tool is reinvented and specific fields extended. Sinuous lines can lead to the written and spoken word, musical interpretation, choreographed gestures, and topographies in the transitory space of art. Lines, sheets, and diagrams dance, play, shout, and think — performing drawing.
