After having welcomed his solo Cargo performance in July, the Nomadic Nights will offer Faustin Linyekula and Studios Kabako (a space initiated by Faustin Linyekula in order to develop social and cultural projects in Kinshasa, Congo) two ’Cartes blanches’.
The second will take place on Saturday 24th of October where you will be invited to Papy Ebotani’s Fanfare Funerals.
Is it a party? Or a funeral wake? Is it a wedding? Is it a fight, or a riot? Created around a text by Dorine Mokha, the Congolese choreographer and dancer Papy Ebotani in Fanfare funérailles is inspired by new mourning rituals which have developed over the last few years in the urban context of the streets and yards of Kinshasa. They mix traditional practices, miracle-based religions, pain and humour, music and ’Sape’, contemplation and worldliness. In the streets, three Congolese dancers and four musicians invite passers-by to this strange procession, rhythmed by drums and undulating bodies. In a single gesture, opening their adjusted jackets, they invite the viewers to follow them through the building of Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.
