FIAC 2016 — Le Grand Palais Cette année encore, la Fiac a proposé un événement excitant et dynamique qui maintient son exigence et continue de faire rayonner la capitale durant cette semaine de l'art. Retour sur un moment d'exception et focus sur la foire en peinture(s).

For its 43rd edition, the International Contemporary Art Fair (FIAC), one of the world’s leading art fairs, run from 20 to 23 October this year, bringing together 189 of the most prestigious galleries in the historical Parisian venue, the Grand Palais. Directed by Jennifer Flay since 2010, the fair is broadening the scope of its programme this year.

Fiac expands by presenting On Site, a series of sculptural works and installations at the Petit Palais, a historic building facing the Grand Palais that was built for the Exposition Universelle (World’s Fair) in 1900 like the Grand Palais itself. The opening of the Salon Jean Perrin, the Grand Palais’ new exhibition room, will focus on works by artists from the late twentieth century.

A Performance Festival in association with the Louvre Museum will bring contemporary art into dialogue with music, dance, performance and poetry.

Hors les Murs is renowned for its unparalleled diversity and the beauty of its locations. The programme will be reinforced with works exhibited in public space, an artists’ films programme, and three days of conferences. The itinerary will cover three emblematic venues: the Tuileries Garden (the 10th year running, in the context of FIAC’s collaboration with the Louvre Museum), the Musée National Eugène Delacroix and the Place Vendôme.

The Salon Jean Perrin, inaugurated this year by FIAC and located between the entrance to the Square Jean Perrin and the Salon d’Honneur, will bring together 9 galleries presenting solo exhibitions of historical artists from the last quarter of the twentieth century whose work is currently undergoing critical reassessment: Endre Tót (acb Gallery, Hungary), Darío Villalba (Luis Adelantado, Spain), Nil Yalter (Espaivisor, Spain), Hessie (Arnaud Lefebvre, France), Irma Blank (P420, Italy), Henri Chopin (Richard Saltoun, England), William S. Burroughs (Semiose, France), Tetsumi Kudo (Christophe Gaillard, France). Kisterem (Hungary) will be presenting a joint exhibition by Ilona Keserü and György Jovánovics.

Lafayette Sector

Founded by the Groupe Lafayette and FIAC in 2009, the Lafayette Sector’s mission is to financially support young international galleries representing the works of emerging artists. This ambitious programme thereby offers a strategic visibility to young artists during this key event for the international art market.

The Sector brings together 10 galleries selected for the quality of their prospective programming and on the basis of a specific project for FIAC presenting one or two artists. The galleries chosen for the 2016 edition were selected from over one hundred applications by a jury of experts.

For the 2016 edition of FIAC, the 10 selected galleries from 7 countries (England, France, Germany, India, Mexico, United Arab Emirates, United States) will illustrate the dynamism of the international emerging arts scene: Allen (Paris); Arcade (London), Experimenter (Kolkata), Freedman Fitzpatrick (Los Angeles), Grey Noise (Dubai), Hollybush Gardens (London), joségarcía, mx (Mexico), Kraupa- Tuskany Zeidler (Berlin), Micky Schubert (Berlin) and TORRI (Paris).

Solo shows will be presented by seven galleries: Boris Achour at Allen, Caroline Achaintre at Arcade, Bani Abidi at Experimenter, Charbel-Joseph H. Boutros at Grey Noise, Claire Hooper at Hollybush Gardens, Guan Xiao at Kraupa-Tuskany Zeidler and Hoël Duret at TORRI. Three galleries will present combined exhibitions featuring two artists: Mathis Altmann and Matthew Lutz-Kinoy at Freedman Fitzpatrick, Marie Lund and Tania Pérez Córdova at joségarcía, mx, Georgi Alexi- Meskhishvili and Ketuta Alexi-Meskhishvili at Micky Schubert.
