On a weed-covered hillside that separates a perfectly manicured garden from the forest above, you climb the rain-soaked slope dragging a construction shovel behind you. Your rubber boots are sucked up by the mud, and you have to be careful not to take your shoes off at every step.

You finally arrive, dirty and drenched in sweat, at the old moss-covered barn that marks the end of your ascent. Wipe off the veil of drizzle covering your glasses and scan the forest. In the distance you recognise the dead tree with the Y-shaped split in the trunk, where you buried the frames nearly three years ago.

François Lancien-Guilberteau, born in 1985 in Brest, lives and works in Paris. He has recently exhibited at the Van Gogh Foundation, Arles; at Tonus, Paris; and at Treignac Projet.
