Forlorn Martyrs Pull A Mirror From The Abyss

Past: December 8, 2012 → February 16, 2013

Galerie dukan hourdequin presents the first solo exhibition in France by Czech artist Josef Bolf.

Born in 1971 in Prague, Josef Bolf is one of the most important Czech artists of his generation among others artists such as Jan Šerých, Ján Mančuška and Tomáš Vaněk with whom he created the artist group BJ (Bezhlavý Jezdec/The Headless Horseman), active between 1996 and 2002. In 2010, he was voted best Czech artist of the year.

His generation, which emerged at the beginning of the 2000’s, was also the first not to be under the control of the Communist censorship as well as to have connections with foreign and western artistic scenes.

His paintings deals mostly with his childhood, the memory of it in the moroseness of the “Normalization” (1968-1989) characterized by the restoration of the “Communist norms”.
